AECOM Asia Company, a subsidiary of AECOM Technology has been awarded a $148m contract by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s Highways Department for the design and construction of the Tuen Mun-Chek Lap Kok Link (TM-CLKL) project.

Under the contract, the company will be responsible for detailed design, and supervision-in-chief and resident site staff responsibilities.

AECOM will provide reference design / detailed design and contract administration during the construction phase of the project.

AECOM chairman and chief executive officer John M Dionisio said, “This is the second design and construction consultancy that AECOM has won for Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge related projects.”

“We are honored to partner with Hong Kong’s Highways Department to play a key role in its continuing development of Hong Kong’s transportation infrastructure,” Dionisio said.

After completion the Tuen Mun-Chek Lap Kok Link will provide a direct transport link between Hong Kong’s Northwest New Territories, the Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities of the HZMB, Hong Kong International Airport and Lantau Island.

It will also relieve traffic from the existing roads and support the logistics industry in Lantau, reinforcing the airport as an international and regional aviation hub through providing alternative land access.

The project involves a dual two-lane six-mile-long highway, of which, three miles will comprise a subsea tunnel.

The project is part of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) related projects in Hong Kong and construction in the project is expected to be completed during 2017.

Construction on the HZMB is underway, which will span 29.6km and include Hong Kong boundary crossing facilities, the Hong Kong Link Road, and the detailed design of the Tuen Mun-Chek Lap Kok Link and Tuen Mun Western Bypass.

As part of the project, Hong Kong this month started work on world’s longest sea bridge at an estimated cost of $11bn, linking the city with Macao and Zhuhai.
