Ghana has commenced work on the reconstruction of the 103.39km Buipe-Tamale highway project.

The construction work includes resurfacing and tarring the ageing Buipe-Tamale road, as well as drainage and ancillary works.

The $73.6m project has received $66.1m funds from the US Government and the Government of Ghana will provide the remaining $7.5m.

The project, which is being executed by the Ghana Highway Authority, forms part of the Trans-West Africa Coastal Highway project and will be completed within 24 months.

The authority invited tenders for the project last year, but contractor details were not revealed, according to businessghana.com.
