Derbyshire County Council in the UK has launched a review considering the future of speed cameras on the roads in the region, following their removal due to government budget cuts.

The council plans to remove three cameras for a 12-week trial in the region to assess the impact of their removal on traffic.

The review of speed camera numbers comes after news that Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership, which runs the cameras, has had its revenue budget reduced by 27%.

The partnership has also lost its entire £300,965 ($466,917) capital budget for new projects and expects further government cuts next year.

A total of 97 speed cameras are expected to be removed, although the council has no plans to remove the yellow speed camera houses, according to thisisderbyshire.co.uk.

A report will be submitted to the county council’s cabinet in October.
