RetroSign GRX is a new instrument launched in September 2016 for measuring retroreflection of road traffic signs, high-visibility clothing, license plates and reflective tapes. The instrument is offered in three base models: GRX-1, GRX-3 and GRX-7 where the digit in the name tell the number of observation angles active. RetroSign GRX is the most advance instrument on the market currently and still very easy to calibrate and operate. It adds new features allowing users to carry out a more complete measurement programme on, for example, road traffic signs.
RetroSign is developed first of all for field use but is prepared for the future and can meet requirements of most laboratory work. The instrument offers the following entrance angles: -4°; 5°; 10°; 20°; 30°; 40°; 45° when applied as a front angle adaptor. It offers the following observation angles, which can be measured simultaneously: 0.2°; 0.33°; 0.5°; 0.7°; 1.0°; 1.5°; 2.0°. RetroSign GRX is based on point aperture geometry, which allows the instrument to detect if direction-sensitive retroreflective sheeting has been applied correctly.
RetroSign GRX offers many features, such as automatic colour recognition, sign pictures, background and legend colour retroreflection and contrast, scanning of barcodes and QR codes for asset management, instrument tilt and rotation, US sign library, and much more. The sign library will allow the GRX to instantly tell if a measurement has passed or failed based on the reference library.
The instruments operate with a reproducibility of +/-5% and a repeatability of +/-2%. The instrument is automatically compensating for ambient light so that daylight and other outside light sources will not affect the accuracy of a measurement.
Data is transferred to a PC by USB or to a tablet by Wi-Fi. Data processing and presentation is performed using existing software, such as Excel and Google Earth. The GRX App and tablet solution can be used for on-location data processing and presentation, as well as to send data instantly to the company back-office. The tablet can also be used as a small asset management database.
RetroSign GRX complies with EN 20471, EN 12899, ASTM E1709, ASTM E1809 and ASTM E2540 standards.
