China is planning to spend $2.64bn on road and bridge projects by the end of 2010.

About $2.2bn is expected to be invested in constructing 152,000km of roads in China’s Xinjiang region.

The work involves 38 ongoing road projects and 16 new projects, according to worldhighways.com.

The 16 new road projects are expected to total a length of 11,000km, while highways will total 1,966km.

The Chinese city of Wuxi is also expected to get 200 new bridges and about 204km of rural roads with twin lanes, at a total cost of $439m.
