Reliance Infrastructure has been awarded a Rs2,960 crore ($626m) contract to widen the Delhi-Agra highway into a six-lane road.

The National Highway Authority of India has signed the agreement with the India-based construction agency, according to hindustantimes.com.

The project also includes upgrading a 180km-long stretch of the highway and building service roads, pedestrian facilities and bus bays.

The upgraded highway is expected to reduce the travel time from the capital, Delhi, to Agra considerably.

The concession period for the company is expected to be 26 years, which also includes the construction period.
