Indonesia will build elevated roads to deal with increasing traffic congestion in the capital city of Jakarta.

The Jakarta Public Works Agency will build two 7.5km elevated roads to link Blok M to Antasari, both in south Jakarta, according to thejakartaglobe.com.

Another road will link Tanah Abang in central Jakarta to Kampung Melayu in east Jakarta.

The first phase of the Blok M-Antasari stretch will cover 5.5km, from the National Police Field in Blok M to Cipete Market, and is expected to cost IDR1.3trn ($145m).

The first phase of the Tanah Abang-Kampung Melayu stretch will run 3.5km, from Mas Mansyur in Tanah Abang to Casablanca in South Jakarta, and is estimated to cost IDR800bn ($87m).

Construction of the elevated roads, which will run 12 meters above the ground and are nine meters wide, will be funded out of the regional budget.

The first phase of construction is expected to be completed by June 2012.
