The Government of Afghanistan’s road maintenance project in Kandahar will receive support from the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) with funding from Japan.

The project will include routine and emergency maintenance work on the Arghanda road, the Panjwai road and the Southern Bypass, all constructed between 2005 and 2007.

Maintenance work will increase the durability of these 36km of roads and maximize the socio-economic benefit for the people of Kandahar Province.

UNOPS will jointly work with the Kandahar Ministry of Public Works (MPW) to train staff of the Maintenance Department and provide urgently needed equipment.

The construction of the three roads was carried out under the overall framework of the National Rural Access Program (NRAP).
