Vinci Concessions subsidiary Vinci Highways has opened the second section of the Lima expressway in Peru.

The new 9km toll section will serve the Peruvian capital’s business districts.

Vinci Highways chairman Fadi Selwan said: “With section two of Lima’s expressway, VINCI Highways is delivering and preparing to operate modern, environment-friendly infrastructure. By improving urban mobility, we will support the growth of a city in great development.

“This project is the perfect illustration of our values: a partnership approach with public authorities, quality and safety for drivers, and the sharing of our expertise with our local teams.

“Vinci has also installed more than 90 cameras, which are integrated within a 24/7 operations centre to facilitate supervision and incident management.”

“The project also demonstrates VINCI Highways’ capacity to make a success of major brownfield motorway projects in complex environments.”

The new section has been built along the existing 16km of road and is expected to provide more efficient traffic flow, a reduction in journey times and improved mobility for Lima’s inhabitants.

Section two of the Lima expressway features 13 viaducts and a 2km tunnel under the Rímac River.

During the construction period, the project has created more than 5,000 jobs in the region.

Workers were employed by companies VINCI Construction Grands Projets, Sixsense, VINCI Energies and Soletanche Bachy.

The road is expected to be used by more than 40,000 vehicles daily.
