Balfour Beatty has been awarded two contracts worth £425m ($543m) for designing and constructing motorways for A-road projects in the UK under Highways England’s Delivery Integration Partnership Framework.

The initial contracts form part of lot B6 in the south-east and lot B8 in the north, worth £1.1bn ($1.41bn) and up to £2bn ($2.56bn) respectively.

The contracts have been awarded for the initial stages of work under the six-year framework, while future contracts will be assigned after evaluating the company’s performance.

Contractual work is expected to commence for both projects in 2019.

Ford Motor Company has collaborated with internet firm Baidu for the development and on-road testing of driverless vehicles in China.

A two-year project will see the companies testing the SAE Level 4-capable driverless vehicle on specific roads in Beijing by the end of 2018.

Ford has utilised Baidu’s Apollo Virtual Driver System (VDS) for completion of its test vehicle modification.

The companies will also explore options to test the driverless vehicle in other Chinese cities in the future.

Piramal Group has agreed with Sadbhav Infrastructure Project (SIPL) to offer debt financing of Rs6bn ($82m) for the completion of core road projects in India.

SIPL currently handles 24 BOT/hybrid annuity projects, of which ten are completely operational, one is partially operational, and the others are in various stages of construction.

The funds are intended for growth capital and will be disbursed based on the progress of the underlying road projects.

Micron Technology and BMW Group will collaborate on the development of automotive memory technologies for vehicles.

The partnership will use BMW’s test automation framework and Micron’s memory and storage technological know-how to create next-generation memory and storage solutions.

BMW also intends to enhance the driving experience in its future vehicles by utilising Micron’s capabilities.

Micron’s DRAM, NAND and NOR technology portfolio, as well as LPDRAM, e.MMC, UFS and SSD storage solutions are anticipated to be used by the partnership.

Amberon has completed the acquisition of UK-based highway fencing equipment provider Barrier Services.

Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.

Founded in 2002, Amberon is a British traffic management solutions provider.

Kier Group has signed an agreement to divest its shares in Australian road maintenance division KHSA to Downer Group for A$43.7m ($31.9m).

The all-cash transaction is scheduled for completion in early-2019, subject to an escrow arrangement.

Proceeds from the sale are expected to be used to further reduce the company’s net debt and to strengthen its core market areas.

Kapsch TrafficCom has acquired connected and autonomous vehicle (CAV) solutions provider eTrans Systems.

Kapsch’s connected vehicle technology portfolio is expected to grow manifold through the acquisition.

eTrans will become part of Kapsch TrafficCom and its solutions will be integrated within the global Kapsch product portfolio under the acquisition.

Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
