Global construction company Fluor has secured a bid-build contract from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for building US 287 Project in Ellis County, US.

The company will widen nearly 4.5 miles of road stretch on US 287 from two lanes to a four-lane, divided asphalt highway with continuous frontage roads under the new agreement.

Fluor infrastructure business president Hans Dekker said: “This is a significant strategic milestone for Fluor and will not only help us firmly establish our position in the bid-build market, but also help us to expand our market offering beyond the traditional design-build and private-public partnerships.

“Fluor was selected from a highly competitive field and we look forward to working with the TxDOT to complete this project on time and on budget.”

The construction work is currently scheduled to begin later this year and is expected to be completed within the next two years.

The US 287 is an arterial route in Ennis, and the investment by TxDOT would not only help in the overall development of Ellis County, but also support commercial and industrial development in the wider region.

Fluor noted that this is the company's first heavy civil business project, and is expected to provide a platform to further enhance its self-perform construction capabilities in Texas.

The company has been designing and constructing infrastructure projects in and around the State of Texas for more than a decade.

Fluor is currently working on the TxDOT Horseshoe Project in downtown Dallas, as well as completing the work of Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority’s 183 south Project in Austin.
