Skanska, a European construction and development company, has signed a seven-year highways maintenance contract with Hampshire County Council, in the south of England.

The total value over the course of the contract is reported to be SEK3.1bn (£280m).

The first two years of revenue, which is expected to be around SEK890m (£80m), will be included in the order bookings for Europe in the first quarter of this year.

As part of the contract, Skanska will be responsible for maintaining approximately 9,000km of Hampshire’s highway network outside the cities of Portsmouth and Southampton.

It will be carrying out planned, reactive, winter and emergency maintenance works in this region.

The construction company will also be focusing on the local employment skills, as well as local supply chain opportunities and community projects.

Skanska will use innovative and cost-effective solutions from across its business.

The contract, which will begin from 1 August this year and run up to 31 March 2024, may be further extended by the Hampshire County Council for further five years.

Skanska has also been engaged in building construction and civil engineering in Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and UK. It also offers services in public private partnerships.

Additionally, the company has also developed commercial properties in select home markets in Poland, Czech Republic, Romania and Hungary.
