Superior Construction, a US-based company has secured a $19.6m contract from the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) to rebuild six Interstate 65 bridges over I-465 and Lick Creek on the south side of Indianapolis.

As per the terms of the contract, the construction company will be carrying out work on the bridges, which were originally built in 1963. The project works are expected to begin in March this year.

For ensuring maximum safety and mobility during construction period, the company will be placing a temporary pavement on I-65 to allow space to shift traffic lanes in both directions.

"Multiple traffic lane shifts and temporary median crossovers will be imposed during the construction process in order to complete the project in phases."

During the contraction process, Northbound I-65 will have three lanes and southbound I-65 will have two lanes, and traffic on the both directions will be temporarily shifted to share one side of the interstate.

The eastbound I-465 loop ramp to northbound I-65, the southbound I-65 ramp to eastbound I-465, and the northbound I-65 ramp to westbound I-465 will be closed for near 150 days.

Speed limits will be imposed on the I-65 and I-465, and the shoulders of eastbound and westbound I-465 will be closed under the I-65 bridges.

The construction of bridge is expected to be complete by the end of this year.
