Audio-visual equipment supplier Eyevis UK has installed video walls in Calderdale, Yorkshire, to improve road safety.

The company has developed eight 47in EYE-LCD-4700-USN-LD-FX displays as an upgrade to Calderdale’s CCTV system.

The eight displays allow officials working at Calderdale council’s CCTV monitoring centre to receive images from 64 cameras in town centres across the region.

Images transmitted from the CCTV system cover town centres in Halifax, Mytholmroyd, Elland, Hebden Bridge, Todmorden, Brighouse and Sowerby Bridge.

The CCTV system has been deployed by BT Redcare Surveillance through a contract signed between the council and Virgin Media Business.

Eyevis UK managing director Steve Murphy said: "It also plays many other important roles, such as protecting iconic sites, aiding parking enforcement, helping to find missing people, monitoring river levels, managing big events and preventing suicides.

"The Eyevis displays help provide higher quality pictures, improved night vision, better recording and the ability to zoom into fine detail."

Integrated with a Netpix 4900 video wall controller, the Eyevis displays include Direct-LED backlight technology, have full HD resolution with 1,920px x 1,080px, and a narrow bezel.

The Netpix 4900 video wall controller delivers individual outputs into a large display, which can provide a vast range of network data, and video and graphics sources.

Calderdale council cabinet member for communities Steve Sweeney said: "This is an important investment as CCTV plays a vital role in keeping people safe. Community safety is a joint effort between the council and other organisations.

"We can now achieve this more effectively, reduce the ongoing cost to local taxpayers and be more environmentally friendly."
