Rear View Safety has launched a new driver fatigue monitoring system to help enhance road safety and protect vehicles.

The MR688 driver fatigue monitoring system is designed to accurately alert a driver to situations where fatigue and other dangers are likely to occur.

This enables them to pull over to roadside and take steps necessary to ensure their general safety and the safety of other drivers.

The system installation comprises a single camera, which is placed on the dashboard of the vehicle with the lens facing the driver’s face at all times.

"The MR688 driver fatigue monitoring system is designed to accurately alert a driver to situations where fatigue and other dangers are likely to occur."

According to the company, the camera starts functioning from the moment the driver starts the car, and always monitors the driver’s face for signs of fatigue.

Constant monitoring enables the camera to recognise how a person’s face changes when fatigue begins to set in, and play an audible alert, helping to keep them attentive and focused on the road in front of them at all times.

Fatigue is claimed to be a constant danger, as the driver may not be immediately aware of just how likely they are to fall asleep at the wheel.

The system has already been used by various oil companies for their fleet of vehicles to be used in applications within the oil, mining and gas industry in Indonesia.

Fatigue is more likely to be experienced by drivers in such industries than it is in a casual driver, as they need to work long hours in order to get products and other materials to factories, job sites and other locations and are constantly working to beat tighter deadlines.
