Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) service, parts and customer-care brand Mopar has initiated a ‘Mopar Road Ready’ driving programme, which has been designed to teach safe and defencive driving techniques to young drivers in Detroit, US.

The new programme is sponsored by the FCA Foundation and supported by Mopar and dedicated to training and educating teenage drivers aged between 15 and 19 with a learner’s or driver’s licence.

It has been developed in partnership with two non-profit organisations, the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Motorsports Museum and B.R.A.K.E.S. (Be Responsible And Keep Everyone Safe).

FCA Mopar Brand service, parts and customer care president and CEO Pietro Gorlier said: "Distracted driving is a pressing issue for us parents, and it is an important component of our Mopar Road Ready teen drivers’ initiative.

"It offers teenage drivers the chance to safely gain experience and learn valuable defencive driving skills in a controlled environment."

"This programme is especially important because it offers teenage drivers the chance to safely gain experience and learn valuable defencive driving skills in a controlled environment."

Participants will be provided with a curriculum and high-calibre instructors provided by B.R.A.K.E.S., with both classroom education and hands-on training with a 3:1 student-to-instructor ratio.

The programme will also offer a companion experience for a parent or adult guardian, a brief classroom review of core driving topics, which include proper seat positioning, hand positioning and basic vehicle dynamics.

Later on, teens will be provided with advanced behind-the-wheel training during five on-track courses, including accident avoidance, distraction, panic stop, wheel drop and wet skid pad.
