Suzhou Industrial Park’s Administrative Committee (SIPAC) has selected UK engineering company Siemens to provide the traffic signal control system for its ITS Phase II Project in China.

Under the terms of the contract, Siemens will supply 110 ST950 traffic controllers, designed and manufactured by the company in the UK together with a UTC/SCOOT traffic management system.

The company will also provide installation supervision, commissioning and integration services as part of the contract.

Siemens sales and business manager Andy Gill said following the deployment of new equipment traffic delays, accidents and congestion will be cut down while improving the traffic safety and efficiency of the network.

"The SIPAC ITS project will become another successful milestone for Siemens’ ITS applications in China."

Various junctions will see the inclusion of real-time monitoring- and networked control, and optimised traffic signal parameters will be applied so as to handle complicated traffic situations reliably.

As part of the project, the traffic control mode will be shifted from traditional standalone mode to real-time area-adaptive control in a bid to provide optimised operation of the traffic system in the industrial park.

Going forward, SIPAC and Siemens also intend to consider other opportunities, including system adaptation, customised application development and information integration.

Established more than 170 years ago, Siemens has offices and factories throughout the UK, with its headquarters in Frimley, Surrey.
