Canada’s International Road Dynamics (IRD) has been awarded a C$1.65m ($1.51m) contract to supply and deploy an electronic pre-clearance system at Huetter Port of Entry in Idaho, US.

Granted by the Idaho’s department of transportation, the contract includes two years of equipment, software and database maintenance to begin after the installation.

"The expansion will complement the current electronic pre-screening sites previously supplied by IRD at Lewiston and Boise and grow Idaho’s network of fully automated weigh station facilities."

The project includes IRD’s integrated electronic mainline weigh-in-motion (WIM) pre-screening solution with the company’s intelligent roadside operations computer (iROC), which will exchange information with the state’s commercial vehicle information systems and network (CVISN).

IRD president and CEO said Terry Bergan said: "The expansion will complement the current electronic pre-screening sites previously supplied by IRD at Lewiston and Boise and grow the state’s network of fully automated weigh station facilities."

Data such as weight, dimensions and identification is collected from vehicles and passed to IRD’s iROC system to decide in real-time whether a truck can bypass a weigh station or to notify the vehicle to report to the station for inspection.

The combination of CVISN information with a vehicle’s weight allows the weigh station to focus on high-risk vehicles, improving the operation of the weigh station and reducing wait times.
