TagMaster had the chance to participate at the “RFID in Rail” conference
in Stockholm in February. The conference was initiated by GS1
together with Swedish Transport Administration and Finnish Transport
Agency.
The event gathered different European stakeholders who have
an interest in a joint standard when using RFID for Track and Trace
solutions for rolling stock. Below is a small selection of the key topics:
- Finland has tagged almost 90% of their fleet with UHF tags and
has a large number of handheld devices in operation - France is in the middle of a trial for an industrial solution using
EPC Gen 2. They are also cooperating with Spain and Poland in
this trial - The forum agreed to work towards the EPC Gen2 standard
(ISO18000-6 type c) for tagging rolling stock in Europe.
The interest and positive reactions among the delegates were striking,
they all see a demand for tagging rolling stock to improve the service
to their end customers
