Kista, Sweden – April 5 2006: TagMaster, world-wide manufacturer and marketer of RFID based identification systems in the 2.45GHz range, and Utsch AG, development pioneer and international market leader for vehicle license plate technology, have announced that they have signed an OEM-agreement. Together they will develop the next generation license plates, which incorporate TagMaster’s long-range RFID technology with Utsch’s ‘third licence plate’. TagMaster’s high performance RFID technology will enable identification of vehicles at long-range and with high reliability in reading, providing increased efficiency and faster detection of vehicle misuse.
ENHANCED PUBLIC SECURITY
The ‘third licence plate’ with long-range RFID serves as a security tool within public security, assisting police officers, traffic wardens or similar personnel in their daily jobs. With an RFID-tag a vehicle can be programmed with public as well as protected information.
The long-range RFID technology also makes it possible to use the ID-tag for passage control and automatic vehicle identification in restricted areas or gated communities. The technology improves public security by means of faster detection and prevention of vehicle misuse. It also assists law enforcement in preventing tax and insurance evasion as well as theft.
“Reliable vehicle identification is becoming more and more important to maintain public security. The partnership between TagMaster and Utsch will make it easier for public authorities to control vehicle identities and safeguard against vehicle theft,” says Dr Wolfgang Bilger, Utsch.
“We are very pleased and honoured that Utsch, after thorough evaluation, has selected to team up with TagMaster for this development project. The cooperation will allow us to provide new solutions, with Utsch being active in more than 100 countries and having the biggest international market share in vehicle license plates. That potentially means that a large number of vehicle drivers can benefit from other use of the ID-tags from TagMaster,” says Magnus Rehn, TagMaster President.
The ‘third license plate’ or ‘LR-Iltag’, developed by Utsch and TagMaster, is a small sticker that will contain an integrated chip, the so-called intelligent license tag or ‘Iltag’. By collaborating with TagMaster, Utsch will develop a new Iltag, the ‘LR-IlTag’, which will incorporate long-range RFID technology. The sticker is placed on the inside of the windshield. If the sticker is removed LR-Iltag will be damaged and impossible to reuse, which is a security feature to prevent theft.
