The following article was featured in the Daily News publication covering the ITS World Congress 2006 where group companies Techspan Systems and Counters & Accessories exhibited representing Hill & Smith Technologies.
It’s first time out for Hill & Smith at a World Congress and the infrastructure products group is here with two of its latest acquisitions.
Hill & Smith is a decentralised infrastructure and construction organisation, one of whose main interests to date has been in safety barriers and street lighting columns.
In late summer 2005 it acquired variable message system company Techspan and early this year, Counters & Accessories, which specialises in data collection and vehicle classification. “H&S has been a very acquisitive company over the years,” said Commercial Director Darren Smith at the show yesterday. “This has been the first foray into the technological market and, one year on, the companies are both being successful in their own right. In particular, Techspan, in the past seven days, has been awarded urban traffic management and control contracts by the county of Suffolk and the city of Coventry. “And, working together, Techspan and Counters & Accessories have been putting in vehicle classification, queue detection and warning systems for the Highways Agency on the M48 and M5 motorways in the UK.”
