Transoft Solutions, developers of industry leading CAD software for the global transportation engineering community, is proud to be the first in the industry to be releasing the AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) 2011 National Standard Design Vehicle Library.
Working closely with AASHTO, Transoft Solutions contributed to reviewing and analyzing the turning characteristics, kinematic model algorithms, and vehicle steering geometry of the standard design vehicles found in the new 2011 Green Book (A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets, 6th Edition, 2011).
The Green Book contains the most current design research and practices for highway and street geometric design. The manual provides guidance to highway engineers and designers who make every effort to make exclusive design solutions that meet the needs of highway users while maintaining the integrity of the environment. The book is also used as a form of reference to assist in planning and educational efforts with regard to design formulation.
The AASHTO Technical Committee on Geometric Design Chair, Mark A. Marek, PE, said, "We very much appreciate the technical assistance provided by Transoft Solutions and the willingness of your staff to share their knowledge of vehicular movement characteristics. The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Technical Committee on Geometric Design wishes to express our appreciation for the technical assistance provided by your company"
Noel Dolotallas, Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Transoft Solutions, had this to say, "We were honored to have been approached by the AASHTO technical committee to help develop chapter two of the Green Book, entitled Design Controls and Criteria. As a result of our collaboration with AASHTO we also take pride in being the first to release this new library to all of our valued maintenance subscribers. Part of our contribution also meant rigorous quality assurance and detailed checks to make sure the data was reliable and accurate. We recognize that our clients are always working on projects that require access to the latest libraries, and to ensure our customer service standards, we made these available first to our valued clients."
The AASHTO 2011 standard design vehicle library has undergone several changes. Older type vehicles have been removed and new ones added. In addition, vehicle design characteristics and specifications have been revised with the latest values.
