Traffic management systems

Serco Transport offers a wide range of services from installing and maintaining traffic signals to complex system integration projects involving the design, implementation and operation of traffic management control rooms. We launched London’s newest addition to their public transport system, Barclays Cycle Hire, and also supply enforcement and back office solutions which help to improve safety on roads. Serco currently operate traffic camera services on behalf of the Victoria Police Force in Australia.

Traffic flow and driver safety traffic incident management

Serco can integrate major arterial roads with smaller city centre streets. Previous projects have included the provision of smooth and safe flow of traffic across the Shenzhen Western Corridor connecting Hong Kong with mainland China. We have also provided active traffic management by using our expertise in enforcement and traffic technology to manage roads assets and reduce congestion.

We can also implement and maintain a variety of systems for tunnels. We can put in place the technology to support drivers and reduce the impact of accidents.

Traffic congestion management

Serco has developed the electronic service delivery for abnormal loads system (ESDAL) to help road authorities and the police to manage abnormal load movements with minimum disruption and risk to infrastructure.  

We are vendor neutral and can recommend and integrate the technology best suited to the needs of each particular road authority. We also support our clients to evolve infrastructure as their needs and the availability of technology changes.

Traffic information and signalling systems

Serco created travel-time variable message signs (TTVMS) and the public Traffic England 2 website, allowing travellers to make informed choices. We operate our BIAS bus information and signalling system in order to provide real-time passenger information to travellers. We use GPS to track bus movements, giving late running vehicles priority.
