TfGM operate a network of approximately 60 cycle detector sites across the Greater Manchester region. The technology deployed is the TDC Systems HI-TRAC CMU Cycle Monitoring Unit.

The CMU unit is located in a roadside pillar and utilizes 2 piezoelectric strip sensors per cycle lane to detect the passage of wheels and hence classify the cycle based on wheelbase (distance between wheels) and speed.
