Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a smart system to detect empty parking spaces at Al Rigga and Dubai World Centre.

The system has also been deployed along the extension of Sheikh Zayed Road (E11).

As part of the digital parking system, nearly 2,030 ground sensors and 70 overhead digital cameras have been installed.

These cameras and sensors will monitor 3,035 parking slots. Units will be controlled through a central control system, which has been designed to offer immediate information on vacant parking spaces in covered zones.

The new service is available through Find Parking service on RTA App, or 13 Parking Variable Message Signs Electronic Boards.

RTA Traffic and Roads Agency CEO Maitha bin Adai said: “The digitalisation of RTA’s various services and systems is in line with Dubai Government’s transformation from an eGovernment to a smart government.

“It will enhance the efficiency of RTA operations through analysing data received from the central smart parking control system.”

“The system involves sophisticated technologies like ground sensors and digital cameras to monitor the usage of parking through detecting vacant slots and instantly transmitting information to the central system for display onto the information signs and the smart app.”

Bin Adai further said that the new service offers real-time and accurate information about the number and location of vacant parking slots in covered zones.

In addition, it is estimated to save 20%-30% of the time usually spent searching for a parking space in standard areas.

Alongside improving air quality and helping to cut carbon emissions, the smart parking system decreases traffic accidents and congestions.

Bin Adai added: “It will enhance the efficiency of RTA operations through analysing data received from the central smart parking control system and making use of it to improve the monitoring and inspection services as well as future expansion plans.”
