The Lebanese capital Beirut has opened a new traffic control centre to deal with traffic problems in the Greater Beirut region.

The new centre is equipped with surveillance cameras to monitor traffic and control congestion.

Red-light cameras will also be installed in the city to record vehicles that run redlights, forming a network of radar-based speed cameras with those have been already installed.

The centre is part of the Urban Transport Development Project (UTDP), which is funded by the World Bank and supervised by the Council for Development and Reconstruction of Lebanon.
