The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has invested AED60bn ($16.3bn) in roads, traffic and public transport projects in the last six years and completed 90% of the proposed projects.

The investment has increased the road network by 29% from 8,715km in 2005 to 11,209km in 2010, while the number of bridges has increased from 108 to 319.

The RTA has also upgraded mass transit systems by improving the trips from 6% in 2005 to 10% in mid-2011 and seeks to increase it to 30% by 2030.

The transport authority has collaborated with Dubai Police to improve road safety, resulting in a drop in the traffic related mortality rate to 12.7 cases per 100,000 in 2011 from 21.7 cases in 2007.

The authority is planning to invest a further AED44bn ($10.8bn) in transit projects by 2020, according to gulfnews.com.
