Dubai’s roads and transport authority (RTA) has announced the completion of works under the fifth phase of Jebel Ali – Lehbab road widening and improvement project.

The project provides alternative roads for motorists heading towards the Jebel Ali industrial area and free zone and its surrounding areas, as well as those heading towards the capital Abu Dhabi and vice-versa, without the need to drive through the downtown area.

The fifth phase of the project involved the widening of the dual carriageway, as well as new improvement works in a 6km section of the road, starting from the interchange of the Jebel Ali – Lehbab road to the Dubai – Al Ain road.

The phase also included traffic signals, lighting, rain water drainage, safety measures, as well as sewage works.

The project has increased the number of lanes from the existing two to four in both directions in the direction of Hatta R/A, so the road will be open by October.

RTA executive director Maitha bint Udai said the Jebel Ali – Lehbab Road is among the strategic traffic corridors under the master plan of roads network implemented by the RTA, and is poised to bring about potential benefits.

"These projects are integral part of the policy to improve roads network to keep up with the urban and demographic expansion of Dubai, which is one of the key objectives of RTA’s vision of providing safe and smooth transport for everyone," Udai said.
