EV Connect has won a contract from the California Energy Commission (CEC) to complete the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities on major routes of the West Coast Electric Highway in the US.

The scope of the project involves the delivery of a network of fast-charging and Level 2 EV charging stations on the highway, from the Canadian to the Mexican borders.

The US-based EV charging solutions provider will also be responsible for managing the entire charging network that includes charging stations, electric utility interaction, host locations and driver experience.

EV Connect will build a cloud-based software platform, known as EVCloud, to manage the EV charging eco-system, reported Traffic Technology Today.

The $1.8m award covers sections of the California 99 and Interstate 5 highways, wherein each location will be supplied with one or two 50kW dual-standard DC fast chargers and at least one 7.2 kW dual-head Level 2 charger.

The former is equipped with an SAE Combo and a CHAdeMO connector, while the latter includes standard J1772 connectors.

"EV Connect’s deep experience in the management of the entire EV network will provide an efficient, reliable and easy-to-use experience."

EV Connect chief executive officer Jordan Ramer said: "The West Coast Electric Highway is an important component in the rapidly increasing adoption of electric vehicles within North America, particularly for intercity travel.
