The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in the US has awarded a €790m ($855m) contract to a consortium to design and build segments H&I of the State Highway 99 ring road, northeast of the Greater Houston, US.

Ferrovial Agroman are leading the consortium, which also includes companies such as Webber and Granite Construction.

The project works include construction of 52.5 mile (nearly 85km) highway stretch that will pass through Chambers, Harris, Liberty and Montgomery counties.

This segment will see its capacity increased by up to two lanes in each direction between US 59 and I-10, and by four lanes between I-10 and SH 146. It is set to be tolled throughout.

The project works will see addition of two lanes in each direction between US 59 and I-10, while the capacity of the road will be enhanced to four lanes between I-10 and SH 146.

It is anticipated that the construction of new lanes and upgrading the existing tolling on SH 99 between I-10 and FM 1405 would be completed over the next six years, and the acquisition of easements through 375 land parcels is expected to be completed in two years.

The consortium will oversee the construction of 74 new bridges under the deal, which will necessitate moving nearly 7.5 million cubic meters of earth. It will only be responsible for the engineering and construction, as management will be carried out by TxDOT.
