Indra, a global consulting and technology company that offers technological solutions to the transport and traffic sector, has designed and installed the new London Streets Tunnels Operation Centre (LSTOC) allowing Transport for London (TfL) to manage London’s entire transport system.

From the advanced centre, TfL can oversee buses, subways, and streetcars, as well as a network of 580km of roads and the city’s 6,000 traffic lights.

Indra claimed that the transition of old systems to its new solution has been a success and has demanded a tunnel-by-tunnel migration, an exhaustive compliance with the required closures and traffic deviation for tests, besides the analysis of works for special situations.

“From the advanced centre, TfL can oversee buses, subways, and streetcars, as well as a network of 580km of roads and the city’s 6,000 traffic lights.”

This migration and start-up plan has enabled TfL service continuity of the tunnels over the duration of the installation in suitable security conditions and has reduced the chances of any incident in the tunnels to a minimum.

Indra’s Horus intelligent management solution has integrated into a single system the monitoring and control of all the tunnels and different subsystems such as video surveillance, automated incident detection, sensors, traffic systems, variable signaling, lighting, ventilation, and communication, among others.

As the graphic interface complies with the leading international standards, it helps TfL in operation and control over infrastructures and traffic, thereby ensuring full operability in both daily management and emergency situations.
