Automatic number plate recognition (NPR) manufacturer Vysionics has been acquired by advanced enforcement solutions firm Jenoptik, in a bid to expand its presence in UK.

Apart from NPR, Vysionics also produces access management and information systems for organisations dealing with highway, construction and parking contracts in the UK and overseas.

The deal is expected to help both companies expand their presence in the market and grow as a business.

"This acquisition is an important step in our growth process and matches our medium and long-term planning perfectly."

Vysionics CEO Kevin Chevis said: "We also look forward to being able to offer more products and services to our existing customer base."

Vysionics was formed back in 2010 when Speed Check Services and Computer Recognition Systems were integrated to form a single company.

Insider Media reported that private equity firm LDC sold its stake in Vysionics to Jenoptik for more than double its original investment.

Jenoptik CEO Michael Mertin said: "This acquisition is an important step in our growth process and matches our medium and long-term planning perfectly.

"As world market leader, we gain not only access to the important UK growth market by acquiring Vysionics, but we also complement our innovative product portfolio; the latest technologies of ANPR and ‘section control’ are important future-oriented products for improved traffic safety on highways worldwide."
