Parking

The Lexington Parking Authority (LPA) in Kentucky, US, has completed a full integration with parking solutions provider Scheidt & Bachmann (S&B), and parking information services provider ParkMe.

This integration allows the authority to offer parking space count to motorists in real-time, making it easy to locate parking spaces.

Live parking data from the S&B system will be trasmitted to the ParkMe application, and will be displayed on the web as well as through a mobile app, allowing customers to reserve or prebook parking spaces.

The development also contributes to environmental improvement due to the lowering of emissions from vehicles circling downtown blocks looking for parking spaces.

LPA executive director Gary Means said: "There is a general perception that there is not enough parking downtown and that it is a hassle to find available parking spaces.

"Technology is revolutionising the parking experience by giving customers information."

"This interface project eliminates the intimidation and helps make it easier for people to plan their trips ahead of time enabling them to view availability as well as pricing in each parking facility."

The LPA currently uses S&B software and hardware to manage the parking access and revenue control systems for four parking facilities.

The interface between the two firms uses the Universal Interface module provided in S&B’s entervo V2R2 software package, while using ParkMe’s real-time availability software to reach its
customer base.

Completed in January, the integration is currently being trialed in Lexington specifically for purposes of space availability, reservations and prebooking.

Customers can use the application by logging into ParkMe’s mobile application or online through LPA’s website.

Data on real-time space count for each LPA parking facility is transmitted between S&B entervo software and ParkMe in a background systems information exchange.

Mr Means said: "Technology is revolutionising the parking experience by giving customers information and allowing them to make choices for themselves. It’s a win-win situation for all."

LPA is looking to expand the space count integration for on-street parking over the coming days.
