Great Eastern Highway

Australian engineering company Brierty has been awarded a $27m motorway upgrade by transport authority Main Roads Western Australia.

The contract involves the upgrade of Great Eastern Highway stretch between Bullabulling and Coolgardie in the Goldfields region of Western Australia.

Great Eastern Highway is a 59km-long road connecting Perth with Kalgoorlie and is an important route for travelling to the eastern Wheatbelt and the Goldfields.

The scope of the contracted works will include design and widening of a 36km road section, overlay and reconstruction of earthworks, pavements and drainage, as well as associated infrastructure.

"Brierty has a long history with Main Roads and we have continued to win repeated business by consistently completing projects successfully and safely."

While the design works are scheduled to begin this year, the contract is expected to be completed by June 2015.

Brierty managing director Peter McBain said it was an important project to be selected by Main Roads Western Australia for the company’s design and construction expertise of regional roads.

"Brierty has a long history with Main Roads and we have continued to win repeated business by consistently completing projects successfully and safely," McBain said.

Brierty has earlier worked with Main Roads for several projects, including upgrades to sections of the Great Northern Highway in the Wheatbelt and Port Hedl and the Great Eastern Highway in the Eastern Wheatbelt.

The company was recently selected to upgrade part of the Coalfields Highway in south-west Western Australia.
