CH2M has been selected by the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDoT) in the US to provide environmental and preliminary design services for rebuilding the outdated I-80/I-580/US 395 system-to-system interchange around Reno city.

The authority made the decision to reconstruct the 50-year-old Reno Spaghetti Bowl and adjacent interchanges to address the increased number of accidents congestion in the region.

As part of the initiative, the transport agency will carry out improvement works across ten service interchanges, one system-to-system interchange, braided/collector-distributor systems and multiple local roads.

CH2M's environmental and preliminary design services will support NDoT in accomplishing its goals of speeding up the process to obtain the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) document for the project in less than three and a half years.

The construction company will also assist NDoT in minimising right-of-way displacements and acquisitions, and utility impacts, identifying risks, improving safety and mobility in the region, as well as developing a comprehensive stakeholder and public outreach plan.

"We’ll not only improve the commute for Nevada drivers and visitors, but also make the environmental and preliminary design process quicker and easier for NDoT."

CH2M North American highways and bridges practice leader Susan Martinovich said: "The Reno Spaghetti Bowl reconstruction is regionally significant, politically sensitive and technically complex.

"We understand how to get these types of improvements built because we're passionate about improving our world.

“In this case, we'll not only improve the commute for Nevada drivers and visitors, but also make the environmental and preliminary design process quicker and easier for NDoT."

Upon completion, the transport agency will be able to meet its travel demands, decrease congestion and improve safety in an effective manner.
