The Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR) in the US has unveiled a 2016 Surface Transportation Programme, which will provide $505m for the State Highway System programme and $334m for the Local System Programme.

This funding will be used to provide the best state highway system possible for all Nebraskans and the travelling public.

The State Highway System funds will provide for 110 new projects, with $495m of the total for construction and $10m for planning and research.

Of the total amount, the State highway cash funds account for $197m, federal funds will supply $226m and $19m will come from federal earmark and local funds, while the Build Nebraska Act will provide $63m.

The projects to be carried out in the state will range from small intersection improvements, including lighting and traffic signals to pavement and bridge preservation to large resurfacing and reconstruction.

The Local System Programme funding includes $258m from the State Highway Trust Fund, $39m from federal funds, $22m from the federal funds purchase programme, $11m from the Build Nebraska Act and $4m from LB 610A state funds.

Major projects to be conducted include 11.6 miles of roadway widening, asphalt resurfacing and bridge repair east of Farnam on N-23 in Frontier County, 10.6 miles of roadway widening, asphalt resurfacing and bridge repair on N-11 north of Burwell in Garfield County and 11.5 miles of concrete resurfacing of US 30 in Keith County.

Work will also include concrete reconstruction of US 30 and N-14 in Central City in Merrick County and 4.2 miles of asphalt resurfacing in Central City.

The funds will also be used for reconstruction of a new interchange south-east of Nebraska City, completion of the 4-lane expressway between Plattsmouth and Bellevue, construction of a four-lane expressway on US-30 between Schuyler and Rogers and four-lane reconstruction of the Heartland Expressway south of Alliance.

The projects will also see 9.2 miles of concrete pavement replacement on Interstate 80 between Lodgepole and Chappell in Cheyenne and Deuel Counties, and 7.8 miles of replacement on I-80 west of the South Platte River in Deuel County.
