Parkeon

Parkeon, a France-based parking management and transport ticketing services company, has launched the first contactless parking meters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The new model provides drivers with three payment modes, cash, credit card and contactless PayPass technology developed by Mastercard.

Drivers can use contactless payment for amounts less than CHF40 ($42.5), but for security reasons must enter their PIN for anything higher.

Parkeon will install a total of 140 Strada parking meters equipped with Paypass in order to manage 2,500 parking spaces in the city.

Of the total planned meters, the company has already deployed 125 terminals across the city.

According to Parkeon, Lausanne, the capital of the Canton de Vaud is the first Swiss city to install this technology, and expects that the new parking meters will inspire other Swiss cities to follow.

Parkeon offers a wide range of services for parking management and transport ticketing, with operations in 55 countries and a turnover of €175 million in 2012.

In February 2013, Parkeon deployed new solar-powered Parkeon Strada Transfer parking terminals in Gravesham Borough Council (GBC) in England, UK, replacing the old, off-street machines.
