The state government of Uttar Pradesh, India, has awarded a Rs8.68bn ($128.86m) contract to PNC Infratech for a four-laning road project in the region.

According to a company filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange, PNC Infratech has been declared as the lowest (L1) bidder for the project.

Under the deal, the Indian commercial construction company will work on four-laning the Varanasi-Gorakhpur section of the NH-29.

The four-laning will be carried out from 12km to 88km, covering Sandah to Birnon, under phase four of the National Highways Development Project (NHDP).

"PNC Infratech has been declared as the lowest (L1) bidder for the project."

The contract amount for the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) project is to be executed on an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis.

PNC Infratech currently records a total order intake of more than Rs28bn ($417.2m) during the current financial year.

The total order book of the construction company, including the contracts that are pending execution, is currently more than Rs46bn ($685.6m). This comprises projects in which PNC Infratech has been the lowest bidder, but has yet not received the letters of award (LoA).

Last month, the company was declared the L1 for the project of construction of a three-lane road on both sides of Sharda Sahayak Feeder Canal from Lucknow-Faizabad Road to Lucknow-Sultanpur Road, in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

PNC Infratech has won several major infrastructure projects across various sectors, which include the development of bridges, flyovers, highways, airport runways, power transmission lines, industrial area development and other infrastructure-related works.
