German software company PTV Group has collaborated with Dutch company TomTom to monitor traffic and congestion in real-time across the Eurometropole Strasbourg in France.

The collaboration will monitor the region spanning a total area of over 600km road network.

The project, which is led by PTV, is based in SIRAC, the city’s traffic management centre.

The project combines real-time data provided by TomTom with the ability of PTV’s Optima analytics platform to deliver quality key performance indicator (KPI) on the data.

SIRAC uses this data to monitor and control the conditions on the street in an efficient manner, along with transmitting precise real-time traffic information to the public.

The new technology will provide real-time data across all road networks, as it collects data from connected vehicles travelling anywhere within the region.

TomTom geospatial and traffic sales and marketing vice president Darren Cottage said: "TomTom is proud to share its high-quality Flow product through PTV to improve congestion across all road networks in the urban and suburban Strasbourg area.

"PTV and TomTom develop a strong partnership when it comes to joining forces in projects like these."

Based on the high-quality and reliable information on the current traffic situation, SIRAC adapts its control systems in order to create green waves that would help ease traffic flow in the region.

PTV Group France managing director Frederic Reutenauer said: "Floating Car Data is a big positive trend and brings new opportunities for cities to improve traffic management.

"That’s why PTV Group provides this data and helps end customers to access it."

The German company acts as a connecting link between the Eurometropole of Strasbourg, TomTom and the end user with an aim to provide enhanced travel experience to the commuters.
