The UK Highway Agency (HA) has reappointed Mott MacDonald as its support service provider for its centralised maintenance depot terminal equipment (CMDTE) system.

CMDTE is a back office system used by the agency for monitoring and recording faults with almost 7,500 of its emergency roadside telephones (ERT).

ERTs are placed along motorways and trunk road networks in the country, and are chiefly used during vehicle breakdowns.

Under the three-year contract, Mott MacDonald will manage ongoing operations for HA’s ERT network and will continue offering first-line technical support helpdesk services.

Mott MacDonald has been acting as a co-ordinator for HA traffic management systems stakeholders, including engineers and contract managers.

Mott MacDonald project director Alison MacKenzie said: "We already support the HA on various traffic management system projects and we’ve managed the operation of CMDTE for more than a year now.

"ERTs are placed along motorways and trunk road networks in the country."

"The main challenge in the next three years will be to ensure the system operation meets its desired target and faults are fixed as quickly as possible by managing the system remotely."

Mott will also be responsible for monitoring the IT security communities and will carry out security patching and system updates for HA’s CMDTE as and when required.
