US-based manufacturer of transportation solutions for safety and mobility McCain, has introduced the smallest advanced traffic controller (ATC) cabinet, the Backpack Cabinet, which is designed for central business districts, school zones, and downtown areas.

The company said that its new compact design cabinet offers the same advanced safety features common to all ATC Cabinets that are currently available.

McCain hardware engineering vice-president Reza Roozitalab said: "Not every intersection requires a bulky traffic cabinet.

"The new Backpack Cabinet is 25in tall and weighs less than 55lb, it features a first-of-its-kind combo input / output assembly, which can be used for either detection modules or switchpacks."

“The combo I/O enables us to offer robust and dynamic solutions for intersections with eight or less phase / pedestrian / overlap movements, those generally served by cabinets at least twice the size and without the same safety features.”

The cabinet also includes swing-out assemblies that provide easy access to field wires at the rear of the cabinet.

With a single-door access point, the compact Backpack Cabinet also consumes less sidewalk space and supports city beautification efforts.

Established in 1987, McCain has been manufacturing advanced traffic control equipment and integrated transportation systems to create safer, mobile, and livable communities. It has workforce of approximately 500 employees at operations in the US and Mexico.
