The Queensland Police Service (QPS) in Australia has awarded a new contract to Vitronic to supply mobile speed enforcement systems for better traffic management.

Under the agreement, which follows a comprehensive tender, the Vitronic’s LIDAR-based PoliScan speed systems will upgrade QPS’ current mobile fleet of wet-film radar speed enforcement systems.

The mobile speed camera is a vital part of the Road Safety Strategy to reduce road trauma in Queensland.

QPS inspector Allan Hales said: "This is a significant time for Queensland Police to introduce automated LASER enforcement into its mobile speed camera programme and provides a capability to deploy speed cameras in a more diverse range of road environments, including road work zones for which enforcement has been constrained technically to date."

PoliScan speed systems use an automatic evaluation template within the photographic evidence, and provide high image quality across all lanes using two high resolution cameras and lane based photo triggering for every lane.

In addition to the speed enforcement systems, the contract includes vehicle integration and the PoliScan connect software which prepares the case data from PoliScan systems, verifies it, and transfers it to the case processing software.

The QPS and VITRONIC have already begun the PoliScan connect integration phase, with the first systems scheduled to be deployed this year.

VITRONIC has previously delivered the TollChecker system for the Queensland Motorways road network in Brisbane.
