Local authorities will break ground on the construction of a new bridge over the Ohio River in the US on 30 November this year.

The Milton-Madison Bridge, will carry US 421 across the river to connect the towns of Madison in Indiana, and Milton in Kentucky.

US-based Walsh Construction would begin work on the $103m project, which includes superstructure replacement by building a new steel truss atop the existing piers, next to the current old bridge.

The new bridge will be open to traffic by 15 September 2012, according to the state agencies.

The project has received $20m in federal grants, with the rest secured from the US states of Indiana and Kentucky.
