The 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) and the European Automotive Telecom Alliance (EATA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), in order to strengthen their cooperation in the field of connected and autonomous driving solutions, as well as standardisation, spectrum and related use cases.

5GAA and EATA will be working towards prioritising the use cases identified by both the organisations in order to recognise the technical requirements that need to be addressed, both in the short as well as in the long term.

Both organisations will also focus standards to support connected and automated driving, standardisation, prioritisation for standards bodies such as European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and SAE.

The MoU will also address spectrum-related issues (V2X), agreement on usage modalities of certain bands, security and privacy, as well as vehicle safety requirements to be supported by both mobile network operators (MNOs) and vehicle manufacturers (OEMs).

5GAA is a multi-industry association that has been formed with an objective to develop, test and promote communications solutions that addresses connected mobility and road safety needs with applications such as autonomous driving and intelligent transportation systems.

It includes 33 members, of which 8 are founding members such as, AUDI AG, BMW, Daimler, Ericsson, Huawei, Intel, Nokia and Qualcomm.

EATA is comprised of six associations and 38 companies from telecom and automotive sectors. The primary objective of this alliance is to promote deployment of hybrid connectivity for connected and automated driving in Europe.
