The European Union (EU) has granted KES15 billion ($190 million) to Kenya to upgrade major roads and highways in the country.

Kenyan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Uhuru Kenyatta said part of the funds will be used to upgrade the 122km Merile-Marsabit road section of the Isiolo-Moyale corridor, which connects Kenya to Ethiopia, according to coastweek.com.

The grant is part of the Kenya-European Union Strategy for 2008-2013 in which the EU has pledged a total of KES40bn (about $500m).
