Malaysia has awarded contracts for the MYR645m (197m) Sarawak road project.

The project involves a 62.3km access road to Murum dam and the building of 13 reinforced concrete bridges.

The entire project has been awarded in five packages, according to biz.thestar.com.my.

IJM Construction has received contracts for two packages worth MYR246.7m ($75m).

The Malaysia-based company will upgrade the existing 20km logging road, build 11kms of new road and five bridges.

Loh & Loh Construction and Pekerjaan Piasau Konkerit have received the other two packages.

They are expected to construct 11km of new road and two bridges.

The fourth package is expected to be completed by mid-2012.

The fifth package, which is yet to be awarded, is expected to construct the remaining 9km of new road and three bridges.
