Italy will deploy the tutor average speed camera system on 200km of motorways by June 2010 following the system’s successful trial.

The move is expected to bring around 2,500km of roads under the system, which will be managed by the government and ANAS, Italy’s public motorway concessionary.

Results from the trial suggest the use of tutor speed cameras in high-risk areas could reduce accidents by 19% and fatalities by 51%.

The system is currently being trialed on Rome’s state roads, according to itsinternational.com.
