The US state of Kansas has approved transport legislation including a $4.6bn investment in preservation projects covering every mile of the state’s highway system.

The programme is also expected to allocate $1.6bn to special county highway projects, $1.8bn for expansion and modernisation projects and $100m for public transit works.

Kansas Governor Mark Parkinson signed the bill supporting the ten-year, $8.2bn state transportation programme.

The bill also allows the state to spend $90m on highway maintenance projects, according to cjonline.com.
