Qatar’s public works authority has awarded a QR1.59bn ($423m) contract to a joint venture of Midmac for the seventh package of the Doha expressway project.

The contract covers the second phase of the Salwa Road project and involves a 6.9km motorway that extends from 700m of the third package up to 300m before the Al Asiri Interchange.

The main highway is expected to have service roads, parking slots and a four-lane dual carriage motorway with two-lane access roads on both sides to accommodate local traffic.

The deal is also expected to include the construction of four single point urban interchanges (SPUI) with a one-way underpass towards Salwa Road and a signalised ground level bridge to help traffic flow across the interchange.

The project also includes upgrading all infrastructure services and protecting existing services, installing sewer pipelines along 2,200m and installing traffic signals at SPUI.

New asphalt pavements will also be laid throughout the project along with streetlight works and traffic signage, according to thepeninsulaqatar.com.
