Construction work has begun on a 443km road linking Nigeria and Cameroon.

The $413m Bamenda – Enugu multinational highway includes a 203km road section in Cameroon and 240km road sections in Nigeria, according to thisdayonline.com.

It also includes the 100m-long bridge over the Munaya river in Cameroon and the 280m-long border bridge over the Cross river in Nigeria.

The project has secured $161m from the African Development Bank while the World Bank provided $330m and the Nigerian Government contributed 10% as counterpart funds.

China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation has been awarded a total of NGN 13.84bn ($91.3m) for the Nigerian phase of the project.

Work is expected to be complete within two years.
